When you've created a compelling vision of the work that you would love to to doing every day with the rewards that you want to receive from it, and taken action to get to make that happen, it's time to advance along your career path.
At the beginning that will involve persevering in your job search, following up on contacts and suggestions from the employers you've interviewed, finding a mentor, and making wise decisions about jobs you are offered.
After you move onto your new career path, you will want to grow it, stay focused and stay on track. There will be decisions to make--should you accept a promotion that might lead you in another directions? Should you apply for that great sounding job that pays more? Or perhaps has great potential but pays less? Should you pursue further education or professional development? How should you deal with demands that create an imbalance in your life and takes you away from other interests and priorities? How should you handle a bullying boss or coworker? What if there's restructuring and your job is threatened?
So many different issues, challenges, opportunities and decisions will arrive throughout your career. That's life! The era of getting a job when you are 18 and retiring from it at 65 is over! Now you will most definitely change jobs, voluntarily or involuntarily several times throughout your work life and you may even have major career changes.
Your goal should be to handle each decision, opportunity, challenge and issue with confidence, competence and professionalism.
